San Lorenzo

The town is a small coastal village in the Riviera di Ponente that with an area of just over one square kilometer is the smallest town in the province of Imperia and the region, [4] but the sixth in provincial high density of the sparse population in the municipality.

Today the modern village extends both in the coastal area and in the hills, recalling from the shape of an anchor, two distinctive urban centers.

The coastal village developed in the area adjacent the Rio San Lorenzo, once called Aqua Sancti Laurentii, where they could land at the mouth of the ships and boats used by the inhabitants for fishing. Just from the mouth of the San Lorenzo departed in 1284 sixty-two sailors on a galley direct support of the Republic of Genoa in the famous Battle of Meloria against the Pisan fleet.
